Congratulations Ellie Mannette on your induction into the WV Music Hall of Fame!
(from WV Music Hall of Fame website)
We hope you will join us for the WV Music Hall of Fame’s fourth induction ceremony. It will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston. Doors open at 7 p.m. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
This year’s inductees are Kathy Mattea, legendary country singer Connie Smith, longtime Jimi Hendrix bassist Billy Cox, drummer extraordinaire Butch Miles, Jack Rollins (writer of “Frosty the Snowman,” “Peter Cottontail” and “Smokey the Bear”), blues singer Diamond Teeth Mary and Red Clay Ramblers’ co-founder Tommy Thompson. Steel drum innovator Ellie Mannette, who has taught at WVU for two decades, will receive the Hall of Fame’s second spirit Award.
Huntington native Peter “Hollywood Squares” Marshall and filmmaker Morgan “Supersize Me” Spurlock will be this year’s hosts. Bill Cosby has taped a video tribute to Butch Miles and Dolly Parton has done the same for Connie Smith, one of her mentors.
Also on hand to present awards and/or to perform include Bill Withers, Jimi Hendrix’s sister Janie, Charlie McCoy, Tim O’Brien, Marty Stuart, Mollie O’Brien, Col. Bruce Hampton, Larry Groce, Wayne Moss, and the Red Clay Ramblers.
